Vitamix Container Blade Recall

Vitamix has just announced a safety recall for the “64-ounce Low-Profile” container that comes standard with both the Vitamix 7500 I had and the Pro 300 I currently have that I just had a blade assembly issue with.

That explains why I ran into an issue with my blade assembly, and hopefully means that I won’t run into issues with the new container when it arrives.

This recall applies only to the short, fat 64 oz. container, not the tall container that came with the 5200 and similar models.  If you think you might be affected, please visit:

There’s discussion of this over at Reddit with some potentially good information.

Vitamix is, as anyone who’s dealt with them would expect, being very good about this.  If you are in the recall group, you get the following message:

Your container has been recalled.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but are concerned that your container’s blade may pose a potential safety issue.

To make this up to you, Vitamix will:

1. Replace the blade in your container with an updated design
2. Extend your blender warranty by one year
3. Include a free Vitamix gift when we return your container to you

Request a Return Kit

Please use the form below to request a return kit. When it arrives, follow the kit’s instructions to return your container to Vitamix. Vitamix will install a newly designed blade in your container, and ship it back to you within 5-7 business days of receiving it.

If you have questions at any time, please contact us at 888-350-4386.

Your information is secure, Vitamix does not share customer information with third parties.

Update: Here is a link to the Consumer Product Safety Commission‘s details around the recall.  Note that it mentions it is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Kudos for Vitamix for quickly replacing the part in my blender affected by the recall. It was a simple process, quick turn around, and focused on customer satisfaction. However, since receiving my repaired container blending performance seems negatively impacted…takes extra cycles, not handling frozen fruits and ice like it used to.

    • They do have a quick turn around right now, but I wouldn’t be too thrilled if the blender I got back wasn’t up to the task of blending the way it used to be.

I don’t see an issue with my containers, but I pay a bit more attention the next time I throw something particularly challenging at them. If you definitely see a difference, I’d at least call Vitamix and let them know. If the new container just needs a few cycles to start performing optimally, there’s no harm in giving them a heads up, and if the problem doesn’t resolve naturally, the sooner you let them know about it the better!

Give them a ring at 1-800-848-2649, that tends to be the fastest way to communicate with them, and everyone I’ve spoken to there does a great job. 🙂

You must have been lucky to have the quick turn-around. I called on August 30, and just today (September 30) received the repaired container. As a free gift I got a recipe book. At least car companies give you a loaner for the time that they fix a recall. I had to wait 1 month for the fix and got a lousy recipe book.

    • Ouch. That is a long wait. Sorry to hear that it took that long to get the replacement. I guess I lucked out by signing up for the recall exchange as early as I did.

  1. I also had a problem and still don’t have the blender back! They took over a month just to ship me the box so I could send it back and that was only after I called to ask what was taking so long to get the return box. I sent it back about 5 days ago so wait and see what happens. Not only that but I emailed Vitamix directly about my concerns with the delay and while I got the automated email back saying they would respond in approx. 48 hrs, I never did get a response back from them either and that was 2 weeks ago. The return is being handled by a separate company.

    • Yikes! I’m shocked to hear Vitamix didn’t get back to you, but I’ve never actually e-mailed them. (They’ve always been very good when I’ve spoken with them by phone.) I’m sorry to hear about the problems you’ve been having, and hope you get the replacement blender soon!
